Nachts, wenn das Feld still wird und alle Lebewesen schlafen, regt sich zwischen den grünen Blättern, die aus der Erde ragen, ein heimliches Treiben. Kleine Gestalten huschen durch die Reihen, ziehen an den langen Halmen, bis unter der lockeren Erde orangefarbene Karotten zum Vorschein kommenmit Wurzeln, so lang wie die Frucht selbst.
